The transportation sector is one of the most polluting on the planet. Spain is responsible for 26% of the country's emissions, more than 30 million tons of CO₂ per year. They are related things, but we rarely have a relationship with each other on a day-to-day basis. This is exactly what the students of the Cicle Formatiu de Grau Superior de Realització de Projectes Audiovisuals i Espectacles de Bande à Part will propose to the students, within the framework of the subject Sustainability applied to the productive sector, taught by communicator and professor Miquel Guri.
The starting point will be a visit to La Fàbrica del Sol, a former gas plant converted into reference equipment for the Barcelona + Sustainable brand. There you will discover the “Com has vingut” kit, a tool designed to calculate the CO₂ emissions generated by the movements of people who are headed to the workplace or to an event. With this method, the students will apply the study to the Bande à Part community: 60 people between students, workers and managers. The result: 24 will arrive on foot or by bicycle - the only ones with zero impact -, while the rest will generate a total of 92,695 kg of CO₂ in a single day.
Beyond these lines, the project aims to demonstrate the need to open these debates in our daily life. Talking about how we move, what infrastructure we need and what alternatives we have to supply is essential to build collective strategies that allow us to advance towards a more sustainable city. The climate crisis will not be addressed only by major global policies, but also by the sum of well-informed daily decisions. Exercises like this, which convert abstract things into concrete and real experiences, are exactly the type of critical thinking that we need to cultivate.
